The shoulder is made up of a number of layers, together with:

  • Bones. The collarbone (clavicle), the shoulder blade (scapula), and the higher arm bone (humerus).

  • Joints. The place the place motion happens, together with the next:

    • Sternoclavicular joint (the place the clavicle meets the sternum)

    • Acromioclavicular (AC) joint (the place the clavicle meets the acromion)

    • Shoulder joint (glenohumeral joint). A ball-and-socket joint that helps with ahead, round, backward, and overhead motion of the shoulder.

  • Ligaments. White, shiny, versatile bands of fibrous tissue that maintain joints collectively and join numerous bones, together with:

    • Joint capsule. A gaggle of ligaments that join the humerus to the socket of the shoulder joint on the scapula to stabilize the shoulder and preserve it from dislocating.

    • Ligaments that connect the clavicle to the acromion

    • Ligaments that join the clavicle to the scapula by attaching to the coracoid course of

  • Acromion. The roof or highest level of the shoulder that’s shaped by part of the scapula.

  • Tendons. The powerful cords of tissue that join muscle mass to bones. The rotator cuff tendons are a gaggle of tendons that join the deepest layer of muscle mass to the humerus.

  • Muscle groups. Assist assist and rotate the shoulder in lots of instructions. Facilitate motion of the shoulder. 

  • Rotator cuff. Title of a gaggle of muscle mass and tendons that rotate and lift the shoulder.

  • Bursa. A closed house between 2 transferring surfaces that has a small quantity of lubricating fluid inside. It’s positioned between the rotator cuff muscle layer and the outer layer of huge, cumbersome muscle mass.
